Scientific Method Project Posts
Engage / Discover: I enjoyed watching the video clip about Doc Brown. He goes through a moment of realization when he shouts "of course?" He feels multiple emotions from excitement to shock to fascination as he watches the TV. This is how most people probably begin their thought process for the scientific method. They experience something that instills a sense of wonder inside of them and they begin a journey to prove or find the truth to that wonder.
Learn: After taking the brain pop video, I scored a 9/10. I got the question wrong about recognizing problems and drawing inferences but did well otherwise. The characters on brain pop emphasized the importance of making observations and establishing variables. Also, accuracy is one of the most important parts of any experiment.
Explore: Real scientists say that the scientific method is actually too simple. The simplified, linear version implies that the method follows an unvarying, linear recipe when in actuality it can be cyclical and unpredictable. Scientists actually engage in many different activities in many different sequences. In the ted talk, he emphasizes how science is not simple and we need to look at it with a sense of creativity because it benefits learning. You learn by being an active researcher. I always thought that the scientific method was pretty straight forward and boring but now I realize that it can bring you to a world of new possibilities and make life exciting.
